Cosmetic injectables are amongst the core treatments that we offer. Alongside skin treatments, injectables form one of the main pillars of facial rejuvenation.

At Aesthetic Harmony Canberra we offer the following injectable treatments:

Although these are among the most requested treatments, there is still considerable confusion amongst potential patients as to how they work and which treatment to have. We would therefore like to give you an overview of these treatments and why we would recommend them.

Our recommendations as to which treatment is suitable for you is based on the scientific principles behind these treatments and our current understanding of the facial ageing process. Each of these treatments address a certain aspect of facial ageing and a certain level of anatomy. We will recommend the treatment that will provide the best outcome for you.

As we age, our skin begins to sag, and we start to look more tired, more sad and more angry. We give out these signals of negative emotional attributes despite the fact that they do not actually reflect how we feel at all. This may have a negative impact on how people perceive us and interact with us.

There are anatomical reasons as to why we project these negative emotional attributes. If we think of the face in terms of layers, i.e. skin, muscle, subcutaneous fat and facial bones, every one of these layers undergo ageing changes. These changes manifest on the top most layer: our skin.

Each injectable treatment targets one of these layers and help to achieve an overall rejuvenation of the skin.

Anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are used to help with ageing changes related to the muscle layer. They work to relax the underlying facial muscles, allowing your skin to flatten out, softening lines and wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections can treat frown lines, forehead lines, crows feet and smile lines. The purpose of anti-wrinkle injections is not to freeze, but to modulate the facial muscles. We know we have achieved this when you can still animate when intended, but unintended movements are calmed down.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are used to provide structural support to reverse changes related to the deeper layers of subcutaneous fat and bone remodelling. There are several purposes of dermal filler treatments. First and foremost, we use dermal filler to achieve a lifting effect of the face to counteract age related sagging. Dermal fillers are commonly used to replace age related volume loss of soft tissue of the face (hence the name filler). Another use is to contour the face to improve facial proportion and harmony. Lastly, we use dermal fillers to influence how facial muscles contract (myomodulation effect).

This allows us to facilitate the elevator muscles of the face and suppress the depressor muscles to counteract the sagging effect of facial ageing. During treatment, you will receive small injections to pre-determined anatomical targets, to lift any age-related sagging, and to restore lost volume to your face. Dermal filler is used to treat any part of the face, including the cheeks, jawline, temple, forehead and around the eyes, lips and mouth. By paying constant attention to the injections into these targets, we can reliably avoid the overfilled look that is so undesirable.

Injectable moisturisers and biostimulatory fillers

Our skin loses collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid content with age. As a result, the skin becomes thinner and less elastic. Injectable moisturisers and biostimulatory fillers are used to target some of these ageing changes of the skin layer. Unlike other cosmetic injectables, these treatments do not add volume or change the shape of the face. Instead, they add hydration and stimulate collagen production in the skin, providing long-lasting fullness and lift. This is typically combined with other skin treatments such as laser treatments and prescription skin care to produce the most optimal outcome.

To summarise, there is a whole range of cosmetic injectable treatments available to suit your needs. Here at Aesthetic Harmony, we will guide and advise you on which is the most appropriate treatment for your anatomy and degree of structural facial ageing, and which other treatment modalities in combination would be beneficial.
